About Justice Douglas Herndon
Justice Douglas Herndon is considered one of the finest and most respected judges on the bench today. Elected in 2020, he currently serves as the Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court and in that role, oversees the entirety of Nevada’s judiciary.
Originally appointed as a District Court Judge by the Governor in 2005, he previously served as the Chief Judge of the District Court’s Homicide Case Team, which he created in 2017 to best serve the people of Nevada through better judicial oversight in the most serious cases. He also served as the Chief Judge of the court’s Criminal Division from 2010-2017.
Throughout his career, Justice Herndon has been consistently among the top judges in terms of time spent in trial and received the highest performance score of any district court judge in the Review-Journal’s 2019 Judging the Judges. Prior to serving on the bench, Douglas Herndon had a distinguished 14-year career in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, where he served as the Chief Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Special Victims Unit.
